About the role
We are looking for an R&D Researcher to join Cambi's Technology Team. This is primarily a hands-on laboratory role, where you will plan and conduct experiments, analyse results and investigate technical questions for which the answer is not known in advance.
Our laboratory conducts both exploratory R&D and customer testing. You may investigate new technologies, improve existing products, study unexpected behavior or test how THP performs on a customer's sludge or other substrate. The work requires careful experimental planning, interpretation and communication of results.
You will be expected to think independently and turn technical problems into questions that can actually be investigated: form hypotheses, identify what would support or contradict them, design useful tests or analyses, and adapt the next step based on the evidence.
The role also connects laboratory research with Cambi's full-scale installations. Depending on the project, you may take part in full-scale trials and sample collection, analyse operating and performance data, support commissioning teams during ramp-up of anaerobic digesters, and contribute to developing a scientific basis for other activities throughout the company.
You will work in a multidisciplinary Technology Team with expertise in process technology, mechanical design, modelling, experimental research and full-scale plant operation. The position involves regular work at both our Asker and Ås locations.
Key responsibilities
Plan, design and conduct laboratory experiments and R&D studies for internal development projects and customer testing.
Formulate and test hypotheses to investigate technical questions, unexpected results and new ideas.
Analyse, interpret, document and present experimental and process data for internal use, to clients and at conferences.
Actively contribute to the safe, efficient and well-organized operation of the laboratory.
Operate laboratory-scale sludge treatment equipment involving high temperatures and pressures in accordance with established safety and quality procedures.
Perform chemical and physical analyses, such as COD and other chemical analyses, rheological measurements, centrate colour measurements and assessment of sludge dewatering properties.
Contribute to the development and improvement of technologies, products and process solutions.
Ensure high quality, accuracy, traceability and consistency in experimental work and documentation.
Take part in full-scale trials, sample collection and other field activities when relevant.
Support commissioning teams during ramp-up of anaerobic digesters at new Cambi installations when required.
Stay up to date with relevant research and technical developments in our field.

Qualifications
Relevant higher education in science or engineering, typically at MSc level, or equivalent competence demonstrated through experience.
A background in chemical engineering, process engineering, environmental engineering, biotechnology, chemistry or another relevant scientific discipline.
Experience with laboratory or experimental work through employment, research projects, thesis work, university laboratories or similar activities.
Strong analytical ability and an interest in interpreting experimental and process data.
Ability to communicate technical results clearly in writing and presentations.
Good written and spoken English.
A valid driving licence and access to a car are an advantage.
Experience with wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, anaerobic digestion or related fields is an advantage, but is not required.
